As I desire to be a world-changer, to follow Jesus: even if it means all the way into the slums of the world, I continue to encounter ignorances of those around me.
The frustrating, negative, insight that keeps entering my mind is this:
1. Outsiders perspectives of "others", of "those people," of "this place has changed so much since..." statements.
2. Will I become one of these abrasive, ignorant, well-meaning folk?
Here are the situations that prompted this fear:
*Recently moving to a new neighborhood in Tampa and speaking with new neighbors about the neighborhood and past stories they've experienced. The positive views they shared: having video cameras watching their house/calling the police on kids/ being part of neighborhood watch/ being happy a family of 20 something year old mothers with tons of children/grandchildren, moved away/ cleaning up the neighborhood with house owners rather than renters and *fixing up* the houses.
*Going to a USF/Syracuse Football game with my friend's business partners. Being asked if I was from Brazil multiple times because I did choose to wear a Brazil shirt today. Then one man began to share his "positive" views of Rio de Janeiro, where his family lived for 8 years. The positives to him were: How much the US currency held in comparison to the Brazil currency. Ok? Thats a positive thing?...exploitation!!
Correct me if I am way out in left field here. But I really desire to have a heart of love, acceptance, and grace. Rather than one of ignorance, superiority, and haughtiness. I am not better than anyone. I am not. God would you help me to be humble.
Humility for His Purpose.
